DSO Entity and ENTSO-E are pleased to report on their joint efforts to develop a strategy for promoting technology uptake for smart grids and network efficiency via new tool “DSO/TSO Technopedia” to be launched in 2025.
In its Action Plan for EU grids released in November 2023, the EU Commission has identified a series of actions to accelerate the roll-out of electricity grids. It tasked the DSO Entity and ENTSO-E to promote uptake of smart grid, network efficiency and innovative technologies. We view this an important task which will increase visibility of existing technologies to enhance deployment of smart grids, increased utilisation and increased security of supply in all European countries.
The DSO/TSO Technopedia will describe known technologies that the system operators can use. It will also describe different use cases and applications around Europe where it already exists, so that all system operators can see what others do, exchange knowledge and if they desire, implement new technologies in their own grid. It is important to note that this new platform will also be open for stakeholder support, where specific applications and use cases can be submitted.
Applications will be reviewed by the associations according to transparent guidelines. The associations look forward to further work, feedback and cooperation to make the DSO/TSO Technopedia the best version yet.
The document included in this communication aims to provide more details on the concept, along with the timeline for the DSO/TSO Technopedia deployment in 2025.
